Phragmites Removal Project
Abagadasset River, Bowdoinham
August 28th  10 am – 2 pm

Join Friends of Merrymeeting Bay on August 28th from 10 am – 2 pm to continue our effort (started last summer) eradicating a discrete and isolated stand of Phragmites located on the Abagadasset River. We will be using the “clip and drip” approach, which involves cutting and bagging the seed heads and then squirting a dose of herbicide down each hollow stem. This method is labor intensive but is effective and selective- the herbicide is only applied directly to individual plants. An experienced, licensed applicator will be present to assist with this effort. Volunteers are needed- Please help!
If you would like to take part in this rewarding opportunity to kill invasive plants and help protect the natural communities within Merrymeeting Bay please sign up with Misty Gorski at 737-8508 or fomb@suscom-maine.net.

What to bring: hand clippers, gloves, water proof boots, hat, sunscreen and bug spray if you prefer. Please also bring plenty of water to drink and a lunch. Rain paints may also be ideal for navigating through the Phragmites stand while working.

Directions: From Route 24 in Bowdoinham turn onto the Carding Machine Road. About 1.9 miles down the road you will see a yellow gate on the right. The gate will be open and you can drive down the dump road to meet everyone. Parking will be located at the end of the dump road by the old town landfill.
Please feel free to forward this announcement to friends or family you think would be interested in helping.
Thank you in advance! I look forward to seeing you there!
