Have you ever wondered about the great forces of continental ice and how this immense weight and scouring agent helped shape the Merrymeeting Bay area? Or what Maine was like eleven thousand years ago as the glacier receded? Or what exactly does the fine sand along the Androscoggin have to do with the coarse gravel deposits along the Kennebec in Dresden? To find answers to these questions and more, join Friends of Merrymeeting Bay and surficial geologist Tom Weddle, a veteran of the Maine Geologic Survey, for an exciting walk back in geologic time.

The FOMB Summer Outside! Series is the warm weather counterpart to FOMB’s popular Winter Speaker Series. Events are usually free and are open to the public. Their next outing will be a rare mud plant walk led by Andy Cutko on August 26 from 2:00-4:00 pm. For this trip please pre-register with Andy at 666-3162. To receive more information about FOMB’s programs, please call Jeff DeRosa, Executive Coordinator, Friends of Merrymeeting Bay, at 371-8099 or jeffderosa@fomb.org. The full Outside! Series is on the web at: www.friendsofmerrymeetingbay.org
